41 days to go

We finally got in touch with someone at the Consulate.. It turns out that we can't even apply for a visa until we've got accomodations. So we've spoken with boy Terry's aunt who may have some contacts in Lucca. We've also been looking on Craigslist and have emailed people in Torino, Verona, Milano and a few other cities in northern Italy. So we may actually have something lined up in the next few weeks. If not, then we'll just have to go and wing it. If we end up doing it that way, then we'll probably only be able to stay in Italy for 90 days, and then have to leave for 90 days... So be sure to call before you come for a visit, we may be in a completely different country than we planned!

Other than looking for a place to live, the big push right now is to get ready for the Karaoke Kegger - our 9th annual party happening this Saturday July 5th. We've ordered enough beer to drown an army, and food and all the fixings, too, in case they survive. Once the song lists are printed, all that will be left is to pick up the mixer, mics and speakers. Maybe we'll do that Friday so we can have a "dry run"... (haha.. "dry" - as if!!)

Meryck is officially finished Grade 10, but he's got one correspondence course to complete. Also, he signed up for his Grade 11 correspondence courses, and they each have a 'good faith' assignment, so he will have to do a little bit more school work before he gets to enjoy his summer vacation. He's particularly looking forward to doing Physical Education by correspondence. Apparently he'll just have to keep a diary of physical activity and have a couple assignments. He's planning to buy a used skateboard and use it as his transportation to and from the pub, which will count toward his PE credit!
